Rummy comes under the family of matching card games that deals with matching cards of same rank or sequence and same suit. In India, 13 cards rummy is very familiar and this variant of the game is a little different from the original rummy. Online rummy is usually played with two to six players using a single deck of cards. A deck consists 52 cards and sometimes it rises to 54 if wild cards are included.
Indian Rummy is played with two decks of cards along with 2 Jokers. Cards in each suit rank in Ascending order like Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, and King.
Note that, Ace can be used as 1 or as a face card when making sets.
The objective of the game:
The purpose of the game is to complete a hand with maximum or all given cards formed into Sets and/or Runs.
Run: Run is also termed as Sequence. It consists three or more cards bearing the same suit and in consecutive order such as:
An example of a Valid Run:
1) 6(Spade), 7(Spade), 8(Spade)
2) 7(Heart), 8(Heart), 9(Heart), 10(Heart)
An example of an Invalid Run:
1) 3(Spade), 4(Heart), 5(Club)
2) 6(Heart), 7(Heart), 8(Spade), 9(Heart)
Set: A set consists three or four identical rank cards and of different suits, such as:

- 3(Spade), 3(Heart), 3(Club)
- 7(Diamond), 7(Heart), 7(Club)
An example of an Invalid Set:
- A(Spade), A(Heart), A(Heart)
- K(Heart), K(Diamond), K(Spade)
A joker might be used anywhere, either in a Run or a Set. And in online rummy, it’s advantageous to remember that while playing your hand must hold at least two sequences among them one should be a pure sequence before you can go out.
Pure Sequence: Group of three or more consecutive cards bearing the same suit without any joker is called as Pure Sequence.
Example: 3(Heart), 4(Heart), 5(Heart), 6(Heart)
Scoring: Face cards like King, Queen, and Jack scored 10 points. Ace cards too score 10 points. Jokers are worth for zero points. All the remaining cards in the deck score the rank as the value.
Example: 7(Spade) would be worth seven points, 3(Heart) is worth three points, etc.
If a player goes out, without having at least one pure sequence in his hand then all the other cards are considered as unmatched and no other meld is valid.
